FAQ
When can you start my project?
Judson Construction works year round, regardless of the weather. It is important to schedule an appointment for an estimate. Once you accept the estimate we will schedule your project. Given any permits needed and our schedule, your project could begin as soon as from 2 – 3 weeks from the initial estimate. Project start times vary, depending on time of year and scope of work. We will communicate, the exact start time with you, well in advance.
How long will my project take from start to finish?
Projects vary completion time. The size of the project is usually the overall determining factor. Most importantly, once your project begins, we work every business day until it is completed.
Once the work is done, will you do the landscaping?
Judson Construction can provide initial landscaping. We will be very specific in our quote as to what will be completed. We do not provide landscape maintenance. We will work with your landscape designer or you can rely on our landscape design experts.
Will I need an engineer for my retaining wall?
Anything built over 4 feet in height usually requires an engineer; however it depends on the project. Judson Construction works with a “Geo-technical” engineer to help you with any project which may require an engineered wall.
Who handles the permits?
Should your project require permits, Judson Construction can handle all of the necessary permits for your project. If you choose to take care of your own permits, Judson Construction can help provide direction.
How do I handle payment?
In the construction industry many contractors require a deposit before any work begins. In the middle of your project they end up not showing up and your job does not get finished. Judson Construction does not require a deposit. We stand behind our services and commitment to quality. Your net payment is due 30 days upon completion of your project.
Payment can be made by cash, check, money order, or bank check.
Will you be on the job site everyday?
When Judson Construction begins your project, we work every business day until your project is completed. (There are very rare days in the year that the weather is so bad or the soil is so unsafe, we cannot complete the work safely. However, this is rare.)
Which areas do you service?

Why would I want to choose natural rock over concrete, keystone or cmu blocks?
When properly installed, nothing compares to the beauty of natural rock. Natural rock is much more personal and less commercial. Although, there are design aspects which rock is not always suitable. Rock retaining walls, will last for a lifetime. Secondly, rock retaining walls are a more cost effective method to building a retaining wall. If you project requires something other than natural rock, we will build it to last a lifetime. We cannot say the same for the lifespan of the product.
What are some situations I might consider a retaining wall?
- To change the grade of an area to make it more safe, and to create more usable area.
- Contrast the grade of the property and separate areas on the property.
- Maintenance of an area. Mowing and maintaining a slope is dangerous.
Do you do retaining walls with materials other than natural rock?
Absolutely! Judson construction will work with your landscape design ideas to achieve the outcome you want. A variety of materials can be used aside from rock. CMU blocks, pavers, concrete, and concrete blocks are all materials we use. Please be advised… Judson Construction will not use cultured stone for retaining walls.
